Boys win again in a home meet

Montezuma’s boys golf team won again in their second meet in as many days on their home course on Tuesday, April 11.

The Braves shot 152 at Montezuma Country Club. Next came English Valleys at 175 and Belle Plaine at 192.

Cruz De Jong shot 36 to claim meet medalist honors. Max Anderson and Maguire De Jong each shot 38, but were “carded out” of runner-up medalist by another 38, from Eli Marsh of English Valleys.

Our boys are continuing to shoot well and when necessary, recover well from an “off” shot,” said Coach Liesl Roorda. “We’re seeing growth and consistency.”

Just two girls teams competed, with Don Bosco edging Belle Plaine 192 to 196.

Montezuma’s Abby Pope and Maddy Fleming competed as individuals.

Girls medalist went to Belle Plaine’s Eva Brannaman with a 38. Runner-up was Lakota Moses of Don Bosco at 41.

JV boys scores – Brady Boulton 46, Tod Geiger 51, Alex Black 53.

Varsity girls scores – Maddy Fleming 56, Abby Pope 59.
