Braves and coach are honored

Montezuma’s head coach and two players have been honored on the Class 1A, All-Substate 5 Team announced by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.

Head Coach Derrick Dengler was named Coach of the Year.

Players Trey Shearer and Cole Watts made the team.

Here’s Cole Watts again, in the process of shooting out the lights against Nodaway Valley. Watts hit seven three-pointers and scored 26 points in Montezuma’s win. (Allyson Fillmore file photo).

Of interest locally: Former Braves Coach Derek Schulte, now coaching Pella, was named Coach of the Year in Class 3A, Substate 6.
