SIGOURNEY – It looks like the Class 1A state qualifier meet for the boys was a success for the Montezuma boys track team on a cold and rainy Thursday, May 9.
The Braves have qualified – unofficially – seven boys in six events for the state meet in Des Moines.
We say unofficially, because our sources (usually right on the money) are in Montezuma, not from state officials.
In order to qualify for an automatic berth, an athlete or a relay team had to win, or . . or place and have their time hold up against all Class 1A meets in the state.
Garrett Watts won the high jump, and the school’s red-hot and record-setting 4×110 hurdles team (Broox Stockman, Luke Brennan, Damien Knox and Garrett Watts) also won.
The other Braves had to wait for the other meets to end.
That means Kenny Criswell made it in the 100, and Knox in the long jump.
Knox and Watts both made it in the 110-meter high hurdles.
Also – and all of this is according to the Blue and White site: The 4×100 relay team (David Rose, Broox Stockman, Alex Black and Kenny Criswell).
Watts cleared 6-1 in the high jump, the fifth-highest of the 24 qualifiers to state. That and what is below are official now:
The shuttle hurdle relay team was the seventh-fastest at 1:03.69, just a shade over their school record of 1:03.57.
Criswell’s 100 time of 11.38 was 10th-fastest.
Knox long jumped 20-6.75, the 12th best.
In the 110 highs, Knox was number 13 at 15.68 and Watts was 17th at 15.84.
The Braves’ 4×100 team clocked 45.10, which was 14th-best.
