Braves’ arms go up 15 times at L-S

SULLY – Montezuma wrestlers had their arms raised in victory 15 times during three dual meets at Lynnville-Sully on Thursday evening, Jan. 20.

Never mind that the majority of those were forfeit wins. To gain a forfeit win, you still have to make weight and put on the wrestling suit.

Forfeits are a fact of like for small schools with undersized squads, especially late in the season.

With 14 weight classes, there are 42 potential matches in three dual meets.

Brett Plants turns his man before going for back points. Plants scored a 10-6 decision in this bout.

The Braves actually wrestled in six bouts on the evening.

In one, 170-pounder Brett Plants of the Braves scored a 10-6 decision.

In another, 182-pounder Zach Bennett pinned his opponent from English Valleys-Tri-County in 3:52.

Zach Bennett, bottom, quickly reversed positions with his man. and later pinned him in 3:52.

And in another, Kennen Roadcap, Montezuma’s 220-pounder, pinned his man from EV-TC in 3:07.

The Braves are scheduled to compete in a tournament in Ogden on Saturday.
