Montezuma unloaded on Belle Plaine for 10 runs in the second inning, and cruised to an 11-5 win over Belle Plaine at home on Monday, June 12.
The Braves put up their 10, then Belle Plaine scored five in its next at bat. But after that, neither side scored.
The win evened the Braves’ record at 4-4 on the season.
Owen Cook got the pitching win after working the first 4.2 innings. He allowed just one hit. Three runs, all unearned, crossed the plate for the Plainsmen and were put on Cook’s total yield.
Cook walked five and struck out five.
Relief help was provided by Luke Erselius and Colton Benson.
This wasn’t a defensive gem by the Braves. They made seven errors.
Garrett Watts went two-for-four and drove in two runs for the Braves.
Luke Erselius had two hits and drove in a run.
Colton Benson drove in a run with a hit.
Lars Taylor and Jack Erselius had one hit each.
Belle Plaine fell to 2-9 with the defeat.
