The Montezuma Braves checked off every category in a nice bounce-back, 80-41 win over Colfax-Mingo at home on Tuesday evening, Dec. 6.
It started with defense, as it almost always does with the Braves, who limited the Tigerhawks to .271 shooting from the field.
The Montezuma offense flowed from there and there was plenty of it.
The Braves had three double figures scorers, freshman guard Brady Boulton leading with 19 points, while Gavin Strong had 16 and Garett Watts scored 14.
Montezuma led 23-11 after one quarter, 51-19 at halftime and 71-25 through three periods.
The Braves had a 29-15 lead in rebounds, Owen Cook leading the way with nine.
Montezuma dished 15 assists on its 32 made baskets, senior guard Masin Shearer leading in this department with seven.
The Braves made 19 steals, Boulton leading with five, and were on the good side (14, to Colfax-Mingo’s 23) on turnovers.
Watts scored his 14 points on six-for-seven shooting from the field, including three-for-six on three-pointers.
The Braves climbed to 2-1 on the young season, while Colfax-Mingo is 0-4.
UP NEXT – The Braves step outside conference play on Thursday when they host Green Mountain-Garwin, then go back to war in the SICL at BGM on Friday.
