It was a very good game. Hats off to Moravia for stepping up and taking it to us for most of the game.

Moravia was a 57-55 winner over Montezuma on Friday, Sept. 1.

We had plenty of opportunities in the game to have a better outcome but just didn’t get the job done in those moments. We as a team need to focus on what we can do to get better as we have plenty of season left to improve and become the team that I know we can be.

Offensively we did some things well.  Up front we did a real nice job in pass protection and giving Brady(Boulton) time to throw. We had some nice running lanes early and late when we spread out the defense but we need to be more consistent with our blocks.

In the passing game Brady and the receivers really connected. We were able to move the ball really effectively through the air.

Brady did a real nice job of delivering some good balls and the receivers also made some great adjustments to throws as well.

I was very pleased with our blocking on the outside, too. We ran a lot of bubble screens and our receivers did a great job of opening up lanes.

Garrett Watts, Cruz De Jong,  Alex Black, David Rose, Carter Michalek and Broox Stockman all caught a pass and 5 of them had touchdowns. It is really nice to see the diversity there. Obviously there are things to work on but we played well for the most part.

Defensivly it comes down to tackling and doing our job. We did a lot of things really well. We had some guys coming up and making plays, we had guys hustling to the ball but it just wasn’t consistent enough.

Watts had a nice game and did some things really well. Stockman was flying around and making plays. Our line did a good job for the most part. We were pretty good in coverage and made the QB have to pull down and run the ball multiple times.

However, we struggled on 3rd and 4th down and getting off the field. We need to do a better job in those situations.

Speical teams-wise, we had some nice runs out of Kenny Criswell and Boulton to help us get some decent field position. Max Anderson and Luke Erselius also did a good job with our kicking duties. Max converted on 5 of 6 PAT opportunities and Luke put the ball where we wanted it on kickoff to limit the damage their returners could have.

Overall we played hard but we needed to execute a bit better to come out with the victory. The coaching staff and I are excited to see how the guys learn and grow through this loss to make us better.
