Braves consistent in 7-3 road win

MARENGO – Montezuma started fast and kept adding on in a 7-3 baseball win over Iowa Valley on the road on Wednesday evening, June 11.

The Braves led 3-1 after two innings and kept the line moving as they out-hit the Tigers 12-8.

Meanwhile, pitcher Luke Erselius struck out nine in going the seven-inning distance for the Braves.

Gavin Wilcox went three-for-four at the plate and drove in a run.

Erselius was two-for-four with a triple and a run batted in.

Broox Stockman had two hits and a pair of RBIs.

Rett Pargeon had a hit and stole a base.

Isaac Wedgewood had one hit and a run batted in.

Ty Smothers and Nolan Hudnut had a single each.

Eight Braves combined for Montezuma’s 12 hits.

The Braves were guilty of just two errors.

Erselius’ pitching line was 7.0 innings, 8 hits, 3 runs allowed, two of them earned. He walked two in addition to the 9 strikeouts.

Chance Hoyt had a double and a triple for the Tigers.

Iowa Valley played errorless ball behind starting pitcher Owen Bral, who worked the first six innings. He walked four and struck out two.

The win lifted the Braves to 3-5.

Iowa Valley dropped to 4-5.
