If I told you Montezuma’s baseball team got just one hit against Keota, what would you think?

That’s what happened, but the Braves won the ballgame, 2-1, taking the lead in the sixth inning at home on Friday, June 2.

They won because they played better defense, and because pitcher Garrett Watts threw a gem.

Watts pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing three hits and an unearned run. He walked three and struck out eight.

Catcher Cruz De Jong was right in the middle of this for the Braves, with the lone hit, in addition to stealing a base and scoring a run.

The Braves put runners on base by drawing four bases on balls, two of them by Owen Cook.

Three Braves also reached on Keota errors, which helped to produce both Montezuma runs. Montezuma made just one error in the contest.

The win lifted the Braves to 3-2 on the season.
