Braves go 3-0 at Montezuma Duals!

MONTEZUMA – Having more wrestlers working in the room makes a difference when it’s time to wrestle in front of the public.

The Braves learned that Thursday night, Dec. 4, when they opened at home in the Montezuma Duals – and won all three meets!

Even though a team has more men out for the sport, they still have to make weight before the meet, then run out in uniform to have their hands raised in victory.

That might not sound hard, but consider that you might not have a match coming up in a meet, but you’ve still got to make weight.

It can be difficult!

The Braves beat Baxter 60-18 and Cardinal 52-18.

But the match against Sigourney-Keota – a 37-36 Braves win – was different.

Sigourney-Keota did have any wrestlers below 144 pounds. This was a 36-all tie at the end of regulation, but criteria on this evening was most wins via forfeit. The team point went to the Braves, who won seven matches that way.

Against Baxter, Braves scoring falls were Wesley Ross at 126 pounds, Braxton Plants at 215, and Isaac Wedgewood at 285. Again, seven Braves won via the forfeit route.

Against Cardinal, scoring pins were Wesley Ross at 126, Wylie Walters at 132, Rett Pargeon at 144, Owen DesRochers at 157 and Karson Ross at 106.

Kaden Baetsle won a major decision (14-5) at 150 pounds.

The Braves were headed to the Bill Rex Invitational at Pekin on Saturday, Dec. 6.
