Braves hit Iowa Valley early in 9-1 win

The Montezuma Braves got out to a quick start on offense and put a 9-1 defeat on Iowa Valley on Wednesday evening, June 16, at home.

The Braves knocked in five runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Montezuma had just a 9-8 lead in hits, but went eight-for-eight stealing bases, which of course puts runners into scoring position. And, the Braves made just one error.

Cole Watts went two-for-five at the plate, including a triple, a run batted in and a stolen base.

Connor Van Zee was two-for-four with three RBIs and a stolen base.

Garrett Watts was the third Brave with two hits on the night.

Eddie Burgess had one hit, but was three-for-three in stolen bases.

Cam Johnson had one hit and a stolen base.

Colton Benson had a hit and an RBI.

And, Joey Kercheval drove in a run.

Owen Cook pitched 6.2 innings and got the pitching decision. He yielded seven hits and one run. It was earned. He walked one and struck out six.

Cole Watts got the final out after allowing one hit.

The defeat dropped Iowa Valley to 2-8 overall and 2-6 in league play.
