Braves still in contention for honors after Day Two

DES MOINES – Montezuma’s wrestling Plants brothers, Braxton and Brett, remained in contention for honors through Day One of the Class 1A state individuals tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Braxton, a junior at 215 pounds, had one match, and it was a pin over Kraklie of Durant in 1:38.

That moved him into the championship quarterfinals.

Brett was pinned in 1:57 by Rogers, of Wilton, in his opening match.

That send Brett into the consolation bracket, where he had success. Plants scored a 16-5 decision over J. Peyton of North Linn.

The tournament continues through Saturday.

DAY TWO
Thursday, Feb. 20

Both Braves remain in contention for medals and place finishes, although both were in the consolation bracket after Thursday, Feb. 20 actiom.

Braxton Plants, in the championship bracket at 215, lost a tough one, a fall in 5:03, to Beitz of Maquoketa Valley.

Braxton now moves into the consolation bracket.

Brett Plants won a pair of matches on Thursday.

He scored an 18-2 technical fall over Tate Frantz of West Branch.

Brett was a sudden victory (8-5) winner over Blickender of CSPR.

He also continues on in the consolation bracket, where wrestlers have a chance to come in as high as third place.
