Braves low-bridge the Plainsmen

BELLE PLAINE – Were they quick? During Montezuma’s 35-11 first quarter, each Belle Plaine player had to feel he was being guarded by at least two players.

The Braves got away to a sensational start and didn’t look back in a 78-39 win over the Plainesmen on Friday, Jan. 10.

The Braves cut and passed well, boxed out for rebounds – and knocked down open shots.

Montezuma led 48-21 at halftime, with guards Brady Boulton and Max Anderson scoring a combined 31 of those points.

Montezuma’s quick defense put some hurry into Belle Plaine’s offense, which wasn’t productive for the Plainsmen.

The Braves outscored Belle Plaine 30-18 during a continuous clock second half.

Montezuma put three players in double figures scoring with two others coming close.

Boulton led with 21 points and Anderson had 16. Dane Strong dropped in 13.

David Rose and Easton Hudnut scored 8 each. Rose was four-for-four from the floor, and Hudnut hit a pair of three-pointers.

Anderson had a double-double with his 16 points and a team-leading 11 rebounds.

Montezuma splashed down 16 three-point baskets on the night.

The Braves also assisted 20 of their 29 field goals, Boulton leading with 9. Brady also led the team withh his 5 steals.

The win lifted Montezuma to 10-1 on the season.

Belle Plaine fell to 3-9.

UP NEXT – The Braves play at English Valley on Tuesday, and host Iowa Valley on Friday.
