The Braves had heavy metal pounding out a loud beat when they stroked eight extra base hits in a 15-3 home romp past Sigourney in varsity baseball action on Thursday evening, June 25.
The Braves had seven doubles and a home run as they lifted their record to 3-1 in the five-inning game.
Eddie Burgess and Brayden Arendt were at the epicenter of the Montezuma attack. Each went three-for-four, and they combined to drive in eight runs.
Burgess had two doubles to go with his first homer of the season. He knocked in five runs.
Arendt stroked three doubles and drove in three runs.
Owen Cook had two hits, both doubles, and drove in a run.
Joey Kercheval was two-for-two at the plate.
Getting one hit each were Connor Van Zee and Cam Johnson, and each drove in a run.
The Braves stole seven bases, including two each for Van Zee and Cook, and one apiece by Cole Watts, Burgess and Kercheval.
Cook pitched all five innings for Montezuma. He allowed four hits and three runs, all earned. He didn’t walk anyone, but hit five batters and struck out five.
Sigourney fell to 2-4 on the season.
Sigourney was an 11-4 winner in four innings in the JV game.
