MONTEZUMA – The Montezuma Braves hit the ground running as post-season play opened Monday evening, Feb. 17.
The Braves outscored BGM 27-5 in the first quarter on their way to a 71-40 win over the Bears.
The win advances the Braves to the second round of Class 1A district play at home on Thursday, Feb. 20, against Sigourney, a 56-41 winner over HLV. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. and if you plan to attend, you again must purchase your tickets online.
It was time for Montezuma’s tallest player to flex and did he! Kohen Holand threw down 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in an impressive double-double! He made 10 of 13 shots from the field.
Also, Kohen blocked 5 shots, and that’s a solid number!
Brady Boulton scored 19 points and dished 5 assists.
David Rose scored a season-high total of 15 points, and Max Anderson had 8 points and 5 assists.
The Braves assisted 17 of their 28 field goals.
The Braves led 42-23 at halftime and 58-28 after three quarters.
The Braves shot .509 from the field, which is very solid considering all rostered varsity players saw action.
Montezuma helped to induce .286 shooting by BGM.
Montezuma moved to 19-3 on the season.
BGM finished a 5-18 season.
