The boys played well all game long against Melcher-Dallas and were ready to go.
On offense we were able to establish the run game early, thanks in large part to our guys up front.
We were able to rotate about 6 guys in and most of the time were were able to get a great push leading to our backs not being touched for 5-10 yards downfield.
Our receivers did a good job with their opportunities and did well blocking on the outside.
Quarterback Brady Boulton did a nice job reading the defense and going with the smart option on our run-pass option plays. There were a few missed assignments but overall a pretty clean game on the offensive side of the ball.
On defense, again it starts with our line. After a first play offsides, they really locked it in and were able to move the line of scrimmage and get pressure. This resulted in a lot of turnovers for our secondary and even one of our linemen, Houston Van Roekel, got in on the interception action.
Having two interceptions for touchdowns from our defense is huge in any game.
Tackling, we did a pretty good job but there is still some improvement to be made. Watching film our angles were good; pad height needs to be lower. However, any time you can hold an opponent to zero is a good night for the whole program.
Special teams had a very good night. Luke Erselius was good with his kickoffs and we were able to have 2-3 opportunities where they started at their own 20 or less.
Alex Becerril did a nice job as well on his PAT kicks. Going 10-11 is a great night. Those points are big for us!
Our coverage on kickoffs was pretty good, however we need to do a better job of staying in our lanes and attacking the football.
Overall, the outcome was great, we just need to focus on the little details to keep improving. We have a big stretch of games coming up and we need to be improving each week to accomplish our goals!
