THORNBURG – The baseball Braves got back on the winning track with a 14-2 victory over Tri-County on Tuesday evening, June 30.
Montezuma scored a total of 11 runs in the sixth and seventh innings after taking a 3-1 lead after five.
The Braves had 10 hits and were aided by 10 walks issued by Trojan pitching. Montezuma also stole five bases.
Connor Van Zee, Cam Johnson, Joey Kercheval and Kodie Strong all had two hits each for the Braves.
Johnson hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run.
Van Zee drove in two runs and Kercheval and Strong drove in a run each.
Owen Cook had an RBI single, and Brayden Arendt had a single.
Cole Watts, Preston Hirsch and Brydon Henning all drove in single runs by drawing bases loaded walks.
Arendt had two of the Braves’ five steals. The others were by Cook, Watts and Van Zee.
Cole Watts pitched the seven-inning distance for Montezuma. He allowed six hits and two runs, one of them earned. He walked three and struck out seven.
The win pushed Montezuma to 4-3 on the season. Tri-County fell to 1-6.
