Braves rake in honors in individual wrestling

OGDEN – Five Montezuma wrestlers had quite a day at the Ogden Individual Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 21.

The Braves won three championships, had one second-place finish, and one fourth.

Kennen Roadcap (220 pounds), Brett Plants (170) and Braxton Plants (182) were the Braves’ winners.

Owen Desrochers (138) placed second and Marty Knox (195) was fourth.

A total of six schools sent wrestlers to this meet. St. Ansgar won with 190 points. The Braves were sixth with 97, but trailed fifth-place Coon Rapids Bayard by just three points.

Here is more about the Montezuma indivividuals:

138 pounds: Owen Desrochers, second place. He had a 2-1 record on the day and stands at 12-15 on the season. He is a freshman.

170 pounds: Brett Plants, first place. He was 4-0 on the day and stands at 24-12.

182 – Braxton Plants, first place. This freshman went 5-0, and now stands at 26-9 at this upper weight class, which is a tough assignment for younger wrestlers.

195 – Marty Knox, fourth place. He was 1-4 on the day and stands at 17-7 overall.

220 – Kennen Roadcap, first place. He went 5-0 on the day, and took his record out to 29-4 on the season.

Overall, the Braves had a match record of 20 wins and five losses on the day.
