Braves roll in first post-season test

SULLY – The Braves baseball team rolled in its first round game of post-season play, 18-4 in five innings over Wayne of Corydon, on Saturday evening, July 6.

Montezuma now faces Lynnville-Sully at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, in Sully.

The Braves outhit Wayne 14-4, with three Montezuma players getting three hits each.

Garrett Watts, the starting and winning pitcher, had three hits, two runs batted in, and stole four bases.

Luke Erselius drove in a whopping six runs with his three hits, which included a double.

Easton Hudnut’s three hits chased in four runs and included a double.

Jack Erselius had four hits, a run batted in and a stolen base.

Cruz De Jong had one hit, a double which brought home two runs. He also stole a base.

Rett Pargeon added an RBI-single.

Gavin Willcox and Broox Stockman each stole a base.

The Braves played errorless baseball.

Watts pitched the first 2.2 innings, allowing 3 hits and one run, which was earned. He walked two, hit one and struck out four.

Isaac Wedgewood pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and 3 runs,2 of them earned. He walked two, hit 3 and stuck out three.

The Braves advanced with a 5-12 record.

Wayne finished with a mark of 5-16.
