Braves roll past Tigers, 69-38

MARENGO – The Braves had no trouble getting the engine to turn over on a cold, snowy night, leading all the way in a 69-38 win over the Iowa Valley Tigers on Thursday, Jan. 18.

Montezuma was out to a 24-6 lead by midway through the second quarter.

The Braves led 38-13 at halftime, and 61-25 through three quarters.

The Braves put three players in double figures. Brady Boulton scored 25 points, Max Anderson had 18, and Garrett Watts dropped in 15. “We had a good game against Iowa Valley,” said Braves Coach Derrick Dengler. “Great pressure defense led to a nice start. We followed that up with some good outside shooting and controlled the game.”

Boulton had a double-double as he also led the Braves in rebounds with 11. In fact, Boulton had an all-around excellent game, also leading with seven assists and 6 steals.

Anderson dropped in six of his 11 three-point attempts and also had 3 assists, 3 rebounds and a pair of steals.

Watts got his 15 on 6-for-13 shooting from the field. He also squeezed 9 rebounds, had two assiss, and 2 steals.

All of the players who dressed for the game saw at least some action. The Braves shot .406 from the field, and limited Iowa Valley to .255 shooting on 17 fewer field goal attempts.

The Braves also shared the basketball, with 15 assists on 26 made baskets.

The win lifted Montezuma to 8-4 overall and to 7-3 in South Iowa Cedar League play.

Iowa Valley fell to 4-9 and 3-7.

UP NEXT – Both Montezuma teams have important assignments at home against North Mahaska on Friday, Jan. 19.
