Braves play with passion at homecoming

MONTEZUMA – The Montezuma Braves hit Melcher-Dallas with a 34-point first quarter and, almost needless to say, never looked back.

The Braves’ eventual 86-0 win made for a happy homecoming at Badger-Gabriel Field on Friday evening, Sept. 13.

Montezuma led 57-0 at halftime and 78-0 through three quarters.

Broox Stockman scored 4 touchdowns, 3 on runs, another on a 50-yard interception return.

Brett Plants scored two touchdowns, both on runs.

David Rose scored two touchdowns, one on a 27-yard pass from Brady Boulton, another on a pass interception and run.

The Braves over-matched their opponent. Montezuma nose tackle Houston Van Roekel intercepted a pass, and moments later carried the ball for a touchdown. Tackle Briar Simpson also carried for a five-yard touchdown.

Freshman kicker Alex Becerril must have been more relaxed this week, as he went 10-for-11 on PAT kicks, and boomed a kickoff for a touchback.

The Braves pushed their record out to 3-1 on the season, including 2-0 in district play.

Melcher-Dallas is 1-2.

JV’S WIN – Montezuma’s junior varsity got its first win of the season last week. It was 56-54 over Baxter, on the Bolts’ home field.

TOUGHER NEXT WEEK – the Braves will have larger fish to fry next week on a trip to Winfield-Mt. Union.
