Braves score in multiple events at BP

BELLE PLAINE – Last week’s weather broke long enough for the Braves to get in a track meet, their first outdoor action of the season.

The Braves entered 19 events and scored team points in 9 at the Belle Plaine Invitational on Friday, April 1.

More boys out for the sport and their competitive nature has made an expanded footprint in meets possible for the Braves this season.

This meet was to have been a two-class event, based on enrollment, but after it was weathered out early in the week, not all of the schools were able to make it on Friday.

That meant one class and some pretty tough competition, but at least the Braves have some in-meet times and distances to work on.

The Braves scored 23 points and placed seventh out of 10 teams.

Montezuma had a trio of fourth-place finishes, and two fifths.

Garett Watts and Eli Bustamante finished fourth and fifth, respectively, but both had best high jumps of 5-4.

The Braves took fourth in the 4×100. Runners were Bustamante, Brett Plants, Nick Kotar and Bryson Stockman.

Another fourth place finish came in the hurdle shuttle relay, by the team of Stockman, Watts, Zach Bennett and Plants.

Kennen Roadcap earned fifth in the shot put with a solid first meet throw of 35 feet, 1 inch.

The other fifth came in the 4×800, from Colton Benson, Carter McKee, Kohen Holland and Jack Erselius.

UP NEXT – The Braves were scheduled to compete at Lynnville-Sully on Tuesday, April 5.
