The Montezuma Braves plated seven runs in the first inning of their baseball season opener against BCLUW on Tuesday evening, May 25.
Soon enough, BCLUW was gaining on them. The Comets got to within one run, at 7-6, in the fourth inning. But the Braves restarted their offense and sped off with a 10-7 home victory.
Montezuma rapped out 12 hits and stole nine bases in 10 attempts. Meanwhile, five Braves pitchers scattered seven Comets hits in getting a staff victory.
Cole Watts led Montezuma’s offense, going three-for-four at the plate and four-for-four in stolen base attempts. He also drove in a run.
Colton Benson was two-for-three with a double and a run batted in.
Connor Van Zee was two-for-three with an RBI.
Jack Erselius had one hit, a two-base knock.
Eddie Burgess, Cam Johnson and Garrett Watts all had one hit and one RBI each.
Joey Kercheval didn’t get a hit, but had one of the Braves’ seven RBIs.
Montezuma’s squad of pitchers walked eight and struck out three.
