Braves step high and keep on truckin’

Montezuma’s varsity boys were the definition of up-tempo basketball as they raced past visiting Green Mountain-Garwin 94-50 in non-conference play Thursday night, Dec. 8, at home.

The Braves put up 56 first half points in leading 29-6 after one quarter, 56-24 by halftime, and 74-41 through three quarters.

Montezuma shot .629 from the floor on 39 makes in 62 attempts from the field.

Freshman guard Brady Boulton paced four Montezuma double figures scorers with 27 points. Boulton hit on 11-of-14 shots from the field, including five-for-eight from behind the three-point arc. Boulton also had time to make five steals and dish five assists.

Senior guard Masin Shearer was next in scoring with 18 points, and he was five-for-nine on three-pointers.

Gavin Strong hit for 14 points and was seven-for-12 from the field.

Max Anderson was the fourth Brave in double figures with 10 points. He was four-for-nine from the floor, including two for five from behind the arc. He also led the Braves with six rebounds as Montezuma led 22-14 in this important category.

There were just 12 fouls called in the fast-moving contest.

The Braves moved their record out to 3-1, while the Wolverines are at 1-2.

UP NEXT – Montezuma moves right back into action tonight, Friday, Dec. 9, at BGM. This will be part of a girls-boys doubleheader, which also is supposed to include JV contests.
