Braves strike early and often in 13-2 win

COLFAX – Montezuma got the line rolling and kept it that way against Colfax-Mingo on Thursday, May 29.

The Braves scored six runs in the first inning and rolled to a 13-2 win in five innings over the Tigerhawks.

The Braves played add-on with three runs in the third and four in the fourth inning as they took their record to 2-1.

Montezuma had 10 hits. Broox Stockman was two-for-three with two singles and two runs scored.

Dane Strong had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs.

Getting one hit each were Lars Taylor, Gavin Wilcox, Luke Erselius, Rett Pargeon, Ty Smothers and Easton Hudnut.

Taylor drove in two runs with his hit, as did Wilcox, Erselius and Pargeon.

Erselius’ hit was a double.

Montezuma stole 10 bases, including three by Stockman, and two each by Smothers and Gavin Wilcox.

The Braves made just one error in the rule-shortened game.

And the pitching: Erselius started and worked 4.2 innings. He yielded two hits and two runs He walked 4 and struck out 9.

Hudnut came on to record the final out.
