Montezuma High School’s boys track team started building some depth last season, and Coach John Beck says that will continue this spring.

I really like our depth,” Beck said. “We have good distance runners, sprinters, jumpers and throwers. The boys are doing a really good job of pushing themselves in practice.”

Our seniors, Colton Benson and Gavin Strong, are leading the team well. It’s really a good group to be around. They mesh well with each other,” the coach said.

We will look to continue the progress we made last year, with the hope of getting to the state track meet in some aspect,” Beck said.

The Braves were scheduled to open their season Monday, March 20, with the SICL Indoor Meet at Grinnell College.

We are very excited to be able to compete in an indoor meet this season,” the coach said. “It will be a new experience for all of the boys’ program, because none of the athletes has been involved in an indoor meet,” Beck said.

Beck said the Braves were looking forward to establishing a variety of times and distances, “and have the first expeience of competing this year.”

I’m very excited,” Beck said, “to see our growth throughout the year.”
