Braves upend PCM with balance

MONTEZUMA – For the second time in as many games, the Montezuma Braves were taking on a team – PCM – from a larger school.

But, the Mustangs were a bit different from the quick and athletic Centerville team, so the task called for other measures.

Against PCM, Boulton didn’t often finish Montezuma’s offense by shooting (he had a record 54 points against Centerville) – but had the junior point guard back in his role as a distributor.

Result: 4 Braves scored in double figures, and Montezuma got to practice holding on to a big lead in the fourth quarter.

That didn’t go maybe as well as they had wanted, but the rest of the game sure did.

Montezuma built quarter leads of 22, 11 and 23 points (at 63-40).

PCM outscored Montezuma 15-4, to make the final score (67-55) look closer than the flow of the game actually was.

Boulton scored 18 points. Kohen Holland had 15, Dane Strong had 11 and Max Anderson dropped in 10.

Holland just missed a double-double with his team-high 9 rebounds.

The Braves outshot the Mustangs .456 to .367 from the field.

Boulton did get a double-double with his 18 points and 11 assists, and came close (8 rebounds) to a triple-double.

Boulton added 3 steals, four deflections and another blocked shot to his game totals.

Dane Strong was 3-for-7 on three-plinters, and Easton Hudnut and Max Anderson splashed down a pair of three-pointers each.

The Braves were able to play good defense with a minimum of fouls – 6, compared with PCM’s 16.

Also, Montezuma outrebounded its opponent, 37-32.

The win lifted the Braves to 9-1 on the season.

PCM fell to 4-6.

UP NEXT – The Braves and Bravettes finish the week at Belle Plaine on Friday, Jan. 10.
