Montezuma will be playing 8-man football for at least the next two seasons.

Districts are re-drawn every two years, and schools must declare their intention to go with the eight- or eleven-man game.

Activities Director Tim Burgess said this week that Montezuma will be sticking with eight-man football.

The Braves were 6-3 this season, after going 2-7 in their first year of eight-man play.

Montezuma was a prolific offensive team – Class 8’s second-highest scoring machine, in fact.

The Braves scored 62 points a game, second only to Don Bosco’s 65 per contest – and Don Bosco is still going in the playoffs.

Don Bosco is also number one defensively, yielding just under 10 points a game.

The Braves gave up 53 points per game, 54th out of the 62 schools that play in Class 8.

Montezuma’s offense rolled for 4,430 total yards and averaged 9.0 yards per snap.

On defense, the Braves gave up 4,139 yards and a 7.0 average per play.
