Braves win and close in on winning mark

Owen Cook pitched another gem, and the Braves took a major step toward finishing the regular season with a winning record as Montezuma scored a 5-0 baseball win over HLV on Wednesday, June 21, at home.

Montezuma took its record to 7-6 with the win.

Cook pitched the seven-inning shutout, scattering three hits. He walked one, hit one batter, and struck out six.

Three Braves did most of the offensive damage.

Garrett Watts was four-for-four, with a run batted in and two stolen bases.

Cook helped his own cause by going three-for-four with two RBIs and two stolen bases.

Luke Erselius was one-for-one, with a run batted in.

For the Warriors, Camden Kennebeck was two-for-three, with a pair of doubles and three stolen bases.

Max Hensdorf pitched the first 5.2 innings for HLV. He gave up six hits and three runs, just one of which was earned. He walked three, hit two, and struck out seven.

Keegan Gorsch pitched the final 1.1 innings in relief.

HLV’s record stood at 4-9 after the game.
