Braves’ win goes down to the wire, 5-4

BELLE PLAINE – In a game that went right down to the final out, Montezuma took a 5-2 lead into the bottom half of the seventh inning and held on for a 5-4 baseball win over Belle Plaine.

The win, the Braves’ second this season, came Monday evening, June 10.

The Braves had 10 hits, continuing a trend of solid contact at the plate.

The Braves also made just one error, and got good pitching, especially in clutch situations.

Garrett Watts had two hits. One was a double, and he drove in a run.

Luke Erselius also had two hits with an RBI.

Jack Erselius went two-for-three, with two stolen bases.

Four Braves had one hit each. Gavin Wilcox batted in a run with his. Cruz De Jong hit a double. Broox Stockman stole a base. Easton Hudnut drove home a run with his hit, and also stole a base.

Luke Erselius started and pitched the first 4.2 innings. He allowed two hits and two runs, both earned. He walked five and struck out nine.

Watts threw 2.1 innings, allowing one run, which was earned. Watts walked two and struck out three.

Erselius picked up the pitching victory, while Watts got a save.

The Braves stood at 2-6 after the win. Belle Plaine was at 5-6.
