MONTEZUMA – Brady Boulton and Max Anderson combined for 56 points as the Montezuma Braves won a shootout over GMG, 76-70, in non-conference basketball action on Thursday, Dec. 12.
Boulton scored 36 points and Anderson tallied 20 as the Braves overcame the Wolverines, who shot a sizzling .537 from the field.
Actually, defense down the stretch by the Braves keyed the win. Montezuma held GMG to 14 points in the fourth quarter, as the Braves added on to a 59-56 third quarter lead.
Boulton had a special moment, too, his 1000th varsity career point. He is a junior.
Boulton was 11-for-21 from the field, including 6-for-9 from three point range. He also had 6 assists – and went 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Anderson was 7-for-13 from the floor and dropped in a pair of three-pointers.
Guard Broox Stockman led the Braves with 8 rebounds and had 4 steals.
Montezuma hit 14 of 32 three-point attempts. Boulton and Anderson each dropped in three, and Easton Hudnut gave the Braves a big lift by dropping in three treys.
Grady Dieleman, Rider Kupka and Colin Teske were the Wolverine sharpshooters. They scored 22, 19 and 18 points, respectively. Combined, they were 25-for-42 from the floor – .595 shooting.
The Wolves were sharp passers, too. They assisted 19 of their 28 made field goals.
The win lifted the Braves to 3-1 on the season.
GMG fell to 1-3.
