Bravette defense clings to L-S, 58-21

Kallie Robison and Mia Boulton defend against Lynnville-Sully.

SULLY – ‘Da defense never rested for the Montezuma girls in their 58-21 road win over Lynnville-Sully on Friday evening, Dec. 2.

Whether it was nose-to-nose man coverage, half court zone or three quarters court zone press, the Bravettes were in their opponents’ faces all night.

Montezuma was dominant on offense, too, with foot and ball movement, even though shooting accuracy left something to be desired at times.

The Bravettes led 14-6 after one quarter, 29-8 at halftime and 48-14 through three quarters.

Madison Johannes, a 5-0 senior guard, was in the middle of every Montezuma defensive deployment. On offense, she connected for three-pointers and also distributed to teammates for wide-open looks at the basket.

Jadyn Sharer led Montezuma scorers with 14 points, including 4 of 8 from behind the arc.

Mia Boulton scored 11 and Kallie Robison had 10 points.

Johannes scored nine, including 3 of 6 on three-pointers. She had three assists and four steals.

Shiressa Wetering led Montezuma rebounders with seven.

The Bravette defense helped produce 19 turnovers for the Hawks, compared to 7 by Montezuma.

The Hawks had trouble getting good shots in the first half, but fared somewhat better out of intermission with some better ball movement.

Bravettes Coach Janel Burgess cleared her bench with 3:55 left to play and her team leading 58-18.

UP NEXT – Montezuma hosts Colfax-Mingo on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
