TAMA – Lily Ferry tied for first place in the high jump and solid finishes in a number of relays drove the Bravettes to a solid fourth-place finish in an eight-team field at the South Tama Girls Invitational on Tuesday, April 23.
The wind was blowing again, but the girls were able to put up several season-best performances.
It was wonderful having girls get out and compete as we enter the championship portion of our season. The Bravettes didn’t have a full roster, but we were still able to have many different kids fill in roles.
Ellen Cook put up some of her best times of the season and I know she will continue to work hard and improve.
Kami Mathes fought hard to put the distance medley into a great position while running her first 800 of the season. She is a true competitor and continues to improve and push those around her.
Another shout-out goes to the 4×800 team that has dropped almost 30 seconds on their relay. This group has been a lot of fun to watch and we are excited to watch them grow.
Sam Bos led the charge in the throws and was able to make the finals and throw a season-best in the discus. Overall, it was a good night with many things to be proud of.
Montezuma quartets placed second in the 4×100, the 4×200, and the 1,600 distance medley.
Bravette runners were third in the 4×800 and the 800 sprint medley as well as the 1,600 distance medley.
The field included several larger schools.
Waterloo West won the meet with 198 points, with the Bravettes fourth with 62.
