Attack, play some tough defense, then attack again.
Repeat the process.
The Montezuma Bravettes blended those volleyball ingredients against Lynnville-Sully – and the dish looked great.
The Bravettes cooked up an impressive 3-1 victory on their home court on Monday evening, Sept. 17.
Scores were 25-13, 15-25, 25-16 and 25-17.
“We were able to play a quick-tempo game which allowed us to get more attacks than we have in the past,” Montezuma Coach Katie Dunlap said.
The win was huge for the Bravettes, who remained unbeaten in South Iowa Cedar League play.
Lynnville-Sully came in at 5-1 overall, to Montezuma’s 3-4.
The Bravettes had 43 kills in the four-set match. Ash Krousie led with 17, Dylan Holland had 11 and Shanae Wetering put down 10.
Lynnville-Sully bounced back with a 25-15 win in the second set.
“We had to take care of our mistakes and focus on the next game,” Dunlap said.
Which the Bravettes did.
Katie Reynolds set up the Bravettes’ hitters with 38 assists. She also had 20 digs, and was 26-for-26 serving, with one ace.
The Bravettes did things in bunches in this match. Korrinn Kehoe, Wetering and Krousie each had four blocks and Holland had three.
In addition to the 20 digs by Reynolds, Kehoe had 19, Krousie had 17, Wetering had a dozen and Allyson Larmore had 11.
Four girls – Reynolds, Wetering, Holland and Kehoe reached double figures in successful serves, with Larmore right in there with nine.
Montezuma was good on 91.1 percent of its serve attempts.
Lynnville-Sully brought in a rangy team with athletic ability, but the Bravettes had answers – at the net and on all areas of the court.
“I am really proud of the girls,” Dunlap said.
UP NEXT – Montezuma plays at BGM on Monday, Sept. 21.
