Bravettes Classic generates noise

The Bravettes and two opponents generated some excitement as Montezuma’s varsity softball team placed second on Saturday, June 12, in their own Bravettes Classic Tournament.

GMG 4 (eight innings)

Montezuma pushed across a run in the top half of the seventh inning and made it stand for a victory.

The Bravettes plated three runs in the first inning, but saw the Wolverines tie the score late.

GMG outhit Montezuma eight to five, but the Bravettes made just two errors, a good defensive outing for them.

Montezuma’s speed was a factor in this game. The team was six-for-six in stolen bases.

Eighth grade catcher Ellen Cook was two-for-four with a stolen base.

Jadyn Sharer had one hit and two stolen bases, and threw out five runners from her shortstop position.

Kalynn Wanders had one hit and drove in two runs.

Kailey Shaffer had one hit and Kallie Robison had a run batted in.

Haylee Walters drove in a run and Jordan Ranfeld had a sacrifice and an RBI.

Tia Shaffer went two-for-two on stolen bases, and Taya Sincox had a stolen base.

Robison pitched all eight innings. She allowed eight hits and four runs, all of them earned. She didn’t walk a batter and struck out five.

GMG fell to 3-10 with the defeat.

The Bravettes, meanwhile, rose to 5-11.

Moravia 6,
Montezuma 4

This one got exciting in the final inning as the Bravettes, trailing 6-0 through six, put up four runs.

Montezuma outhit Moravia 12-5, but made six errors.

Four Bravettes had two hits apiece.

Madison Van Zee was two-for-four with a run batted in and a stolen base.

Jadyn Sharer was two-for-four, including a double.

Tia Shaffer went two-for-three.

Kallie Robison goes down to get one.

Jordan Ranfeld was two-for-two.

Ellen Cook hit a double and drove in two runs.

Kailey Shaffer had one hit and a stolen base, the same as Kalynn Wanders.

Kallie Robison had one hit, and pitched all six innings for Montezuma, allowing five hits and six runs, three of them earned. She walked one and didn’t have a strikeout.

Moravia left town with a 10-7 overall record.

Montezuma stood at 5-12.
