The volleyball Bravettes put in a lot of hard work this off-season, getting ready for this fall’s play.

It paid off – big time – Monday night, Sept. 27.

Montezuma scored a 3-1 victory over Colfax-Mingo on Senior Night.

No, the Bravettes didn’t take down a rated team. But Colfax-Mingo is a good one.

A major win for the Bravettes!” said Coach Rylie Little. “Lots of good things tonight!”

The Tigerhawks came into the match 12-4 overall, to Montezuma’s 9-7. However, both were unbeaten in South Iowa Cedar League play. Belle Plaine also started the night unbeaten in the SICL.

This Montezuma victory should help the team’s seeding enormously in the western division of the conference, prior to the league tournament.

Scores were 25-21 for Colfax-Mingo, then 29-27, 25-22 and 25-21 for the persistent Bravettes.

Our ball movement was tremendous,” Little said. “Colfax is a solid team. We will study hard and work the next few weeks for another potential opportunity to see them in the conference tournament.”

Shanae Wetering had 16 kills and nine digs for the Bravettes.

Montezuma’s serving was precise. The team was successful on 89 of 93 attempts. That’s a scoring .957.

Rangy Morgan Van Dyke had 17 kills for Colfax-Mingo. Caylee Cunningham had 15.

There were plenty of opportunities our our girls to have thrown in the towel and give up, but they knew how important this win would be rolling into conference play in a couple of weeks,” Little said.

Katie Reynolds had 37 assists in the match, and topped 1,000 for her career. “A big shout-out to Katie,” Little said.
