The Bravettes are up to number eight in the latest Class 1A state poll, and if those ratings hold up, they’re a major threat to make it to Des Moines for another state tournament.

The girls have been placed in Region 8, and Montezuma will host at least two games on the path to state – for sure, even if the Bravettes are not one of the teams playing.

Montezuma fans couldn’t ask for much more.

The other rated team in Region 8 is CAM-Anita, who comes into the week at #9 and with a 17-2 record.

Regional play starts Feb. 6 with play-in games.

Montezuma hosts on Feb. 13 and will play the winner of a Feb. 6 play-in between WACO and Hillcrest Academy.

In the bracket immediately below the Bravettes, Fort Madison Holy Trinity (16-2) plays New London (1-17), and English Valleys (11-7) takes on Keota (5-11). Holy Trinity will host the game matching these two winners.

On Feb. 16, survivors meet in Montezuma, with those winners advancing to the regional finals on Feb. 21, at a site to be determined. That winner – heads to Des Moines.

The Bravettes have won 15 straight games and face two larger schools with good teams in the coming days.

Results will not impact the Bravettes’ status in the Class 1A tournament.

But the Feb.2 game against Class 2A’s #5 team, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, and Feb. 5 against Williamsburg, could do much to harden the girls for battle.

It’s time to get excited again about basketball.

We’ll have details about the boys next week.
