McCALLSBURG β It was a battle, and after the dust settled, it was Colo-Nesco that came away with a 5-3 varsity softball win over the Montezuma Bravettes on a steamy Thursday evening, July 2.
The teams were tied 1-1 in the second inning, but the Royals had edged ahead, 3-2, by the fifth.
Kallie Robison pitched well for the Bravettes. She allowed just one earned run. Montezuma, which played errorless ball earlier in the week against fourth-rated Lynnville-Sully, was guilty of five boots in this one.
Jadyn Sharer, the team’s eighth-grade second baseman, went four-for-four at the plate and drove in two runs. She is Montezuma’s cleanup hitter.
Getting two hits each were Katie Reynolds, who also stole a base, and Kalynn Wanders.
Robison and Kailey Shaffer each had one hit and Haylee Walters had the team’s other stolen base.
Reynolds had four putouts in center field.
Robison pitched six innings, allowing six hits. She walked two and struck out three.
The loss left Montezuma with a 7-6 record on the season, while Colo-Nesco stands at 4-9.
Montezuma’s JV team cruised 8-0 in Thursday’s opening game.
UP NEXT β The Bravettes have the weekend free of games until hosting Keota on Monday, July 6. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
