Bravettes fly through turbulence, 66-37

Maybe it was a little too easy at the start for the Bravettes.

Montezuma’s girls staked themselves to a 20-6 lead after one quarter against Iowa Valley.

But the Tigers came back with a 19-11 second quarter, and trailed just 31-25 at halftime.

Montezuma responded by holding the Tigers to 12 points in the second half of a 66-37 home victory on Tuesday evening, Dec. 20, at home.

It was important – because Iowa Valley, now 8-2 overall, hadn’t lost a game in South Iowa Cedar League play. The Bravettes, now 7-1 overall, are 5-1 in the SICL.

The Bravettes put three girls in double figures, led by Shiressa Wetering’s 20 points as she continued her surge of active play in the post.

Wetering was nine-for-13 from the field and grabbed five rebounds.

Montezuma continued making a team project out of rebounding. Post Kallie Robison led with eight, guard Madison Johannes had seven, then came the five by Wetering and five by Jadyn Sharer.

Ellen Cook scored 16 for the Bravettes and Mia Boulton netted 14.

Sharer scored eight, and maintained her .500 average from behind the arc by going 2-4 from three-point range.

Montezuma assisted 13 of its 26 field goals, with Cook leading with six.
