SULLY – Coach Katie Dunlap said she wanted her team to be “more aggressive” at the net.
Against Lynnville-Sully, Ashlyn Krousie and her teammates were missile launchers.
The Bravettes struck 154 attacks – about twice as many as in earlier league matches – and emerged with victory in four sets on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Krousie had 40 of those attacks, and finnished with 18 kills.
Scores in Montezuma’s 3-1 triumph were 25-22, 17-25, 25-22 and 25-17.
Lynnville-Sully entered the contest with a 14-4 record, to Montezuma’s 10-12.
Krousie stands 5-6, but she can jump and maintain a powerful arm swing. The Hawks have a pair of players listed at 6-1, but that didn’t deter the Bravettes’ top attacker, or her teammates.
Waverly Roorda had nine kills for the Bravettes, Shelby Conger had six, Shanae Wetering had 5 and Korinn Kehoe had four.
Roorda helped with 28 assists. Those helped her to establish a new school record for career assists!
Lynnville-Sully came up with 125 digs and needed every one – and a few more, as it turned out.
Krystal Van Dyk had nine blocks for the Hawks and Mallory Loftus had seven. Four Lynnville-Sully players had 20 or more digs.
Loftus had a great match, leading her team with nine kills. She was 26-for-26 serving, with three aces.
Dylan Holland led Montezuma with three blocks.
Montezuma got a big lift off the bench in this match from junior Kierstyn Price, who had three blocks and was six-for-six serving, with two aces.
UP NEXT – Montezuma’s week continues Thursday at Iowa Valley.
