In tournament play, you take them one match at a time.

And this one tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 21) could be a memory-maker for the Montezuma Bravettes. . . or the HLV Warriors.

It starts at 7 p.m. in Montezuma.

It’s a rematch from the very recent conference tournament, when Montezuma rallied past HLV in five sets.

This time, it’s in the second round of the Class 1A regional. The winner will play again on Monday. The loser will pass in the song books on this season.

HLV (13-9) has won seven of nine matches coming in – but we mentioned above one of those two losses.

The Bravettes have built their record to 13-6, getting stronger all season after a shaky start.

HLV is a well-coached team that executes fundamentals. The Warriors have seniors in key spots, including 5-8 middle hitter Karlee Timm. She had 19 kills the last time they played, and an attack efficiency of .400.

Timm also had six of HLV’s 14 blocks and 25 digs.

HLV served at a .950 clip, with 10 aces.

The Bravettes “out-killed” HLV 61-42 in that match, with their improved serving and passing recently leading to that total.

Shanae Wetering had 23 kills and a .487 attack efficiency. Ash Krousie had 14 kills and a .351 efficiency rating.

Katie Reynolds set up the hitters with 42 assists.

It was a war at the net at times, with Montezuma countering 14 blocks by HLV with 11 of its own.

AT BELLE PLAINE – The hosting Plainsmen (24-8) host Central City (13-11). The winner will take on the Montezuma-HLV winner on Monday, Oct. 26, in Belle Plaine.
