Bravettes line 11 hits, but fall 7-6

A Bravette hitter is about to attack a pitch at North Mahaska.

NEW SHARON – The Bravettes got their bats going – lining 11 hits – in just their second game of the season, but it wasn’t enough to catch North Mahaska, which scored a 7-6 softball victory over Montezuma on Thursday, May 23.

The Bravettes rallied with a four-run seventh inning, but came up one run short.

Chloe Snook went 3-for-5 at the plate and scored two runs.

Madison Van Zee was 2-for-4, with a run scored.

Mya Smothers drove in two runs with her hit.

Others getting one hit each were Ellen Cook, Vivian Cook, Izzy Roorda, Kam Schmidt, and Laila Kercheval.

Ellen Cook, Vivian Cook and Smothers each stole a base.

Leah Urfer and Sydnee Burgess shared pitching duties.

Urfer worked 3.2 innings, allowed 7 hits and 4 runs, just one of which was earned. She walked 3 and struck out 2. She was tagged with the loss.

Burgess pitched 2.1 innings, allowed 2 hits and 3 runs, just one of them earned. She walked two and struck out one.

The Bravettes fell to 0-2, while the Warhawks rose to 1-1.
