Bravettes open 2023 with 67-17 win

The Bravettes continued to be a dominant species as they waxed Keota 67-17 in their first varsity basketball game of the 2023 portion of the season Tuesday evening, Jan. 3, at home.

Our ladies played very composed and together tonight,” said Montezuma Coach Janel Burgess.

We had 15 assists and many paint touches,” the coach said. “We also had a lot of solid communication within our defense.”

The Bravettes shot .475 from the field and limited Keota to .192.

Four Bravettes reached double figures, led by guard Mia Boulton with 15 points, to which she added four assists and three steals.

Guard Ellen Cook scored 10 points, dished seven assists and had three steals.

The Bravettes got 14-for-24 field goal shooting from post Kallie Robison (12 points), Shiressa Wetering (12), and Ashlee Eilander.

Robison also grabbed six rebounds and Eilander had five.

The Bravettes lifted their overall record to 7-1 and their conference mark to 6-1 with the win.

Keota fell to 3-8 and 3-4.

UP NEXT – Montezuma steps outside the conference on Thursday when the Bravettes (and Braves) host PCM. “Thursday will be a great challenge for us,” Burgess said.
