Bravettes open tourney win 76-12 win

Girls to host Midland on Tuesday

The Bravettes took care of business in their regional tournament opener on Thursday, Feb. 9, putting a 76-12 defeat on winless Hillcrest Academy of Kalona on Montezuma’s home court.

The Bravettes, now 18-3, led 46-10 at halftime, then limited Hillcrest Academy to two points in the second half.

The Bravettes put up some special numbers. Kallie Robison led with 20 points, on 10-for-11 field goal shooting.

Montezuma assisted 25 of its 31 baskets.

Mia Boulton on the wing against Hillcrest. Mia had 12 assists.

Of those 25 assists, 12 were by guard Mia Boulton.

Ten Bravettes scored points, with Ellen Cook and Shiressa Wetering next in line with 14 each.

I was really proud of our focus,” Coach Janel Burgess said. “We were dialed in to grow and I felt like we did.”

Burgess said the team total of 25 assists was, “tremendous. We were extremely selfless.”

Our defense was great because we switched it up throughout the game and played a different style than we normally do.”

Hillcrest, with just one upperclassman on its roster, closed an 0-20 campaign.

The Bravettes will be at home again in the next round. That will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m., when they take on Midland of Wyoming (10-12), which scored a 56-47 win over Lone Tree.
