Bravettes ‘pass by’ Keota, 90-17

It was a good night in the learning lab.

The Montezuma Bravettes put their entire starting five into double figures in a 90-17 win over Keota on Friday evening, Jan. 15, at home.

The Bravettes splashed down 13 three-point baskets in leading 32-2 after one quarter, 52-9 at halftime and 79-11 through three quarters.

The Bravettes had a clean night on offense, with just two turnovers through three quarters, and only two more after reserves finished out in the fourth period.

Post forward Dylan Holland led the way for the Bravettes with 19 points.

Shanae Wetering and Elise Boulton each put down 15, with 11 of Wetering’s coming in the third quarter, when she used some nice screens by teammates to drive to the rim.

Kierstyn Price and Mia Boulton scored 11 each to round out double figures scorers.

Official stats will likely show the Bravettes shot a high percentage from the field, fueled by team-oriented, no-panic passing. (Sure enough on the shooting: The Bravettes were at .698, on 37-for-53).

The Bravettes also had full control of the boards.

The Bravettes kept their hands in on defense, yet still helped to create 25 Keota turnovers. Montezuma’s shooting included 13-for-20 from behind the three-point arc.

Holland had seven rebounds.

Wetering had six steals, as did Elise Boulton.  Mia Boulton ran down six rebounds. The Bravettes came up with 26 steals and assisted 22 of their 37 field goals.

Montezuma took its record out to 14-1 overall, and to 11-0 in South Iowa Cedar League play.

Keota is 2-8 and 1-4.

UP NEXT – The Bravettes host a solid North Mahaska team on Tuesday evening, Jan. 19.
