Bravettes rally for another walk-off win

The year 2020 has been special, and this softball season is turning into something extraordinary for a resilient Montezuma Bravettes team.

The Bravettes spotted BGM a 6-0 lead, but rallied late to win, 7-6, on Chloe Latcham’s two-run double in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

The game was played on Montezuma’s field on Tuesday evening, June 23.

The Bravettes have come from behind several times to win in a now-4-1 season. And Latcham, a senior third baseman, has knocked in the winning run twice in walk-off victories.

The first two innings were scoreless, but the Bears (2-2), put themselves on top six unearned runs in the top of the third inning. The Bravettes were guilty of five errors in this game.

Montezuma scored a run in the fifth to make it 6-1, then four in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-5.

Then came the two-run seventh, capped by Latcham’s game-winner.

Latcham drove in three runs on the night.

“We got one!” Third baseman Chloe Latcham tells fellow defenders how many outs the Bravettes have against BGM. Latcham’s seventh inning hit was a walk-off winner for the Bravettes.

Carrisa Van Zee had two hits for the Bravettes and Kalynn Wanders had two hits and a run batted in.

Kallie Robison added to Montezuma’s seven-hit attack with a hit and a run batted in and Kailey Shaffer had one hit.

Robison pitched all seven innings for the win. She gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out three.

Rylie Van Ersvelde had three hits for the Bears, including a double.
