The Bravettes threw up a strong defense from start to finish and scored a 56-16 conference victory over winless Colfax-Mingo on Friday evening, Dec. 8, at home.
The Bravettes led 24-5 after one quarter and never looked back. Montezuma led 37-10 at halftime and 54-12 through three quarters.
The win lifted the Bravettes to 4-2 overall and 2-2 against the league.
Shiressa Wetering and Ellen Cook led Montezuma scoring with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
Wetering worked to get open in the post and her teammates got her the ball. She shot 8-for-10 from the field.
Ellen Cook was 4-for-13 from three-point range.
Vivian Cook added 8 points to the Bravettes total and went 2-for-7 from behind the arc.
The Braves turned Colfax-Mingo 31 times, while being guilty of just 8 turnovers themselves.
Neither team shot well, .328 for the Bravettes and .318 for Colfax-Mingo. But Montezuma won the rebound battle 28-12, which led to more scoring opportunities.
The Bravettes were 8-for-10 from the free throw line.
Colfax-Mingo fell to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.
