BROOKLYN – The Bravettes started fast and didn’t look back. They didn’t need to, because BGM wasn’t gaining on them.
Montezuma won its varsity basketball game against BGM on Tuesday evening, Jan. 23, by a score of 62-17.
The Bravettes led 22-3 after one quarter and just kept going.
The Braves put three girls in double figures and just missed having a fourth.
Jadyn Sharer led with 14 points, including a trio of three-pointers.
Ellen Cook scored 12, all on treys. She was a stat stuffer in other categories, too. Her game included 6 rebounds, 9 steals and 3 deflections.
Claire Erselius scored 11 and she led the team with 7 rebounds and 4 deflections in a really productive game for Montezuma’s guards and swing players.
“We are always striving to get better and I was proud of our effort to work hard on our defensive rotations,” Montezuma Coach Janel Burgess said.
The Bravettes held the Bears to .194 field goal shooting.
“I thought there were some very good moments where we played off of each other instead of staying glued to our player,” the coach said.
“Our offensive ball movement is continuing to get better,” Burgess said. “We may not make every shot, but we are creating the correct shots for each other. I love our balance of inside and outside shooting.”
Montezuma moved to 13-2 on the season, and 10-2 in SICL play.
The Bears went to 3-11, and 2-8.
UP NEXT – The Bravettes play at Colfax-Mingo on Friday, Jan. 26, when they’ll be the opening game of a girls-boys doubleheader.
