It was the first night of post-season volleyball play and the Montezuma Bravettes were open for business.
Montezuma advanced with a 3-0 victory at home over Twin Cedars on Monday, Oct. 18.
The Bravettes outscored the Sabers 75-35 during the match. Individual set scores were 25-16, 25-8 and 25-11.
The Bravettes had complete control at the net against the shorter Sabers, and mixed in some strong serving.
Montezuma had 33 kills in the match, compared to just 10 by Twin Cedars. The Bravettes also led 13-2 in blocks.
In serving, Montezuma was 68-for-73, a .932 percentage, with 12 aces.
Shanae Wetering, Kallie Robison and Izzy Roorda each had seven kills for the Bravettes. Korrinn Kehoe had 6, and Katie Reynolds had five. No one had more than three for Twin Cedars.
Montezuma (21-9) advances to the second round of Class 1A, region 6 play. The Bravettes will host North Mahaska (18-13) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20.
Montezuma edged the Warhawks 2-1 last week in the semifinals of the South Iowa Cedar League tournament. That match included a third set tie-breaker, won by the Bravettes, 15-11.
Twin Cedars ended its season with a record of 9-16.
North Mahaska beat Melcher-Dallas 3-0 on Monday, on scores of 25-10, 25-10 and 25-13.
