Bravettes stay on task at Keota

KEOTA – The tasks for Montezuma against Keota on Tuesday, Jan 21, were to take care of business, work on stuff and look sharp, and have some fun.

The top-rated, now 13-0 Bravettes, who won this by a 58-16 score. They were ahead 44-2 at halftime, so they took care of business.

They always have things to work on; right now the job is to get prepared to invade fourth-ranked North Mahaska on Friday night.

Were they sharp? The numbers indicate that.

Did they have fun? Well, they love playing the game, so there’s really no need to ask that one.

Keota, now 1-11, has just six rostered players.

Shateah Wetering scored 19 points on eight-for-11 shooting, that included three-for-four from three-point rage.

Three-point shooting was maybe Montezuma’s only subpar area on this night. The rest of the Bravettes were one-for-20 from behind the arc.

You’re right: It’s not like they really needed those treys. But if you shoot ’em, you want to make them . . .well, you know.

Montezuma’s starters played half or slightly less of the game, then others took over.

Elise Boulton up with a runner.

Four Bravettes: Shanae Wetering, Mia Boulton, Elise Boulton and Korinn Kehoe, scored between four and eight points. That kind of scoring depth is something Coach Janel Burgess and the girls have been working on.

Elise Boulton had four assists and four steals.

Maddy McKeag had four steals for Montezuma.

The Bravettes made just five turnovers to Keota’s 31.

And Montezuma shot .583 from two-point range. And if you sstudy the stats below, you’ll that that multiple Bravettes made some sort of positive contribution to yet another team victory.

UP NEXT – Montezuma plays at North Mahaska at 6 p.m. Friday. The Warhawks haven’t lost since the Bravettes beat them in the second game of the season.
